Bariatric Evacuation Sledge
According to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a risk assessment must be carried out on your premises. This is to ensure there is an escape route available for everyone present in your building, including those with mobility issues, whether they are disabled, injured or even pregnant. Lifts are not usable during an emergency and these people will struggle with stairs, putting them at risk. How do you evacuate everyone if this is a problem you face?
The use of a Bariatric Evacuation Sledge is an ideal solution. A sledge aids in the evacuation of a building in the event of an emergency, providing a fire escape for those unable to descend the stairs on their own. This emergency evacuation sledge is similar to a regular Evacuation Sledge, but with a widened foam layer to make it suitable for bariatric users.
No longer do you have to worry about the stairs in the event of an emergency!
How Much Weight Can this Sledge Support?
The Bariatric Evacuation Sledge is made with reinforced materials, and is designed to carry patients up to 2000kg. This depends on proper usage, and a risk assessment should be carried out to ensure the operators of the sledge are trained to move extremely heavy loads.
Features of the Bariatric Evacuation Sledge
The bariatric evacuation sledge is a suitable fire emergency sledge when a situation arises. Stored in a heavy duty bag, the evacuation sledge can be hung on the wall when not in use, allowing it to be positioned in ideal places such as by the stairs.
The bariatric evacuation sledge is made up of two layers of foam:
- Upper foam layer: designed for comfort for the user
- Lower foam layer: heavy duty construction to protect the patient when in transit.
These two layers offer protection and comfort. The wider construction of the bariatric sledge enables larger users to be assisted in comfort with no concerns over safety. Safety belts and a foot pocket secure the user when in position.
Webbing runs the full length to provide a slippery surface, helping improve both strength and mobility when moving the patient. This can handle weights up to two tonnes, ensuring the evacuation sledge is suitable for a vast range of patients.
What Type of Buildings Can the Evacuation Sledge Evacuate?
The Evacuation Sledge is suitable for many types of buildings and establishments that are multiple stories, as lifts should never be used in an emergency. Types of buildings where the Evacuation Sledge proves useful includes:
- Businesses
- Offices
- Care homes
- Hospitals
- Hotels
- Police stations
- Public centres
- Shopping centres
- Government buildings
- Council buildings
- Sports centres
- Universities
- Colleges
Bariatric Evacuation Sledge Suitability
This emergency evacuation sledge is suitable for use when evacuating a building in the event of an emergency. Long handles enable one to two people to operate the evacuation sledge with ease, comfort and safety.
A fire evacuation sledge such as this is suitable for use on a spiralling staircase unlike many evacuation chairs. The base allows it to run over tiles, carpets and other floor types while protecting the patient from any discomfort.
